Dress 20

This was possibly the quickest dress job ever. I spray painted the bag with an industrial gold paint meant for solid objects, but even if the colour flakes off, it will add to the effect. Unfortunately the paint looks yellow in the photo, but believe me, it really is a nice hue of gold. Finally, the pattern is all from the lace, even the strategically placed flowers in the middle.

Some of you may recognize this bag. I think I bought it in 2003 from the Gap, on sale. And, as with many of my bags, but mainly the large monstrous ones, I tend to wear them down to a single thread. This one's made of leather, but I've included a close up of it so you get an idea of how scuffed and beat up it is. Which is why I've decided to make it into Dress 20. I'm not prepared to let it go yet, so it's time for a makeover.

I have a piece of lace tablecloth I picked up from Goodwill in high school. I'm going to use it as a stencil and spray paint bits of it all over the bag with gold paint.

Dress 19

Dress 19 turned out to be a lot more forgiving than I expected. I've posted two photos here. The first is of the dress with puffed cap sleeves. I just wanted to show what kind of metamorphosis it went through before it reached it's current stage. I scrapped those sleeves after I tried it on because it was a little too tight across the shoulders and I felt like a football player. The second photo shows how the sleeves ended up turning out. Light and flowing. In retrospect, I like the final design much better than any of my original ideas. It's a peasant blouse with a twist.
